HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I don’t know about you, but there’s something about starting a new year, a new month, or a new week that sometimes makes me feel like I got a “do-over” opportunity. Like a fresh start to try again or do more. My initial feeling is that it’s exciting, but sometimes pressure, stress, and anxiety creep up on me.
As New Years Eve was approaching and while everyone was reflecting over their accomplishments and wins, somehow the dreaded “comparison bug” bit me and I started to dissect my fewer than great accomplishments in comparison to others. Horrible I know, but it happened and emotionally and mentally I was sinking fast. Society, specifically social media, projects a lot of pressure to be “perfect” and to have this or that, do this or that, travel here and there, look like this or that, etc. etc.
Therefore in preparation for 2020 I decided to do a brain dump. You’re probably like “a what!?” because that was my initial response when a dear friend recommending it. In short a brain dump is writing down everything that’s consuming your mind in order to release your stress.
As I began to write things down as they came to me, I could feel my shoulders start to lower to their normal position (they normally sit high close to my ears lol). The tension in my neck started to release and before I knew it I had two pages full of words. Now of course I have to put an action plan together and because I’m me (a little OCD) I’ll go back and organize my written thoughts, but I didn’t mentally carry that stress with me into the new year.
So rather than feel the pressure to start the new year off like an IG post of someone who has 6 trillion followers, I slept in and spent the day in my pj’s. I was relaxed and completed a couple of tasks from my brain dump. Day one of 2020 completed successfully because I was stress free and took care of myself… 364 more days to go!
This year I’ll be focusing on my personal goals as well as business goals. A priority for me is to keep encouraging myself and others while spreading the importance of self-care. To help me do this, I plan to feature other amazing people I’ve met or who have inspired me. I’d like to think that I’m not alone in how I felt about the New Year and I know that self-care is something that EVERYONE needs more of. So I hope that you’ll join me on this journey thru 2020 and I wish you peace, prosperity, and intentional daily self-care.
