Soyful Aromas is celebrating its 5th year and I am beyond excited and in shock! If you’ll allow me to be transparent for a moment I want to share a little about how I’m not supposed to be here.
You see Soyful Aromas is my saving grace. It’s more than just a “candle business” to me. Several years ago I was caught off guard by life and challenged in ways that there were days when I thought I was going to literally lose my mind! I experienced emotional pain on a level that I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. I was at a point of questioning everything I knew to be true and trying to wrap my mind around the infamous question “why me?”.
With the support of trustworthy family and friends, plus an awesome therapist, I started my healing journey. Gradually there started to be sunny days again, laughter, and restful nights. I intentionally focused on myself and my self-care. I made me a priority and trained myself to do it without feeling guilty.
During my journey I started making candles. It started off as a great distraction from the world and forced me to refocus my energy and thoughts on something of value and peace. Something that I could do positive for others as I began making candles for my friends and family. Little did I know that this was all a part of Gods plan for me.
If you would have told me 5 years ago that I’d be a business owner today, I probably would have rolled my eyes laughing and told you “no way!”. My educational background is in behavioral health and social work … there’s not an ounce of entrepreneurship in my blood and I dislike math with a passion! But again here I am and I’m every so grateful to be!
I have met some of the most amazing people during the past five years. Whether at a pop-up shop, market event, private candle party, network event, etc. As much as my goal has been to inspire and encourage others to practice self-care, I have received so much inspiration and encouragement in return. I don’t know what the future holds for Soyful Aromas, but I’m no longer being resistant. Despite my circumstances and what I can see, I know that I have a purpose and that I AM supposed to be here.
Thank you for an amazing 5 years!
May is Mental Health Month and we want to help spread the word that mental health is something everyone should care about. According to the Mental Health National Organization, “1 in 5 people will experience a mental illness during their lifetime”. It is critical now more than ever in light of COVID-19 that we not only raise awareness, but support one another. So we will be doing our part in May to raise awareness via social media and of course we had to create a candle to incorporate a little aromatherapy. We hope that you will join us and we wish everyone wellness.
A proceed of monthly sales for May will be donated to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI California).
