So it’s been a minute since I last blogged, but today I was totally inspired; therefore let’s have some tea talk. Just to clarify this won’t be the type of tea talk that you see in the Kermit memes, and it’s not the infamous gossip that you hear on reality shows. My tea talk is about the High Tea event I attended today. Sounds fancy right!? Well it was! It was a meetup group that comes together for various gatherings throughout the year. The women in the group have developed friendships, support systems, and a safe place to discuss and encourage women empowerment. Amazing right!?
Today the ladies put on their Sunday best, from pink high heel shoes to fancy hats and black lace gloves. Look at these stunning women!
… and look at the presentation! There was a wide variety of finger foods, varies types of teas, and of course dainty little tea cups and saucers to tie it all together.
Ok, so clearly I was impressed, but the fancy clothes, food, and decor wasn’t the highlight for me, this part was … earlier this year the ladies all gathered together and had a Vision Board event. They created vision boards as visual representations of their 2017 goals. Since we are half way thru 2017, the ladies planned today’s High Tea so that they could come together to check-in and see how they are doing on their goals.
As the discussion progressed the topic of self care emerged. To be more specific there was conversation about how sometimes we have to plan out our self care moments or else we end up being last on our long list of things to do … especially when you have the role of caring for others. As much as I advocate for self care, I am very guilty of this, hence my ears perked up.
Here are a few tools/tips that I really liked and will be trying:
- Google calendar – Use your Google calendar to schedule time for yourself AND share your calendar with your bestie or someone who will hold you accountable (and vise versa). I love this idea because many times I have calendared to “go to yoga” or “read for 30 minutes” and when my alert goes off, I’ve ignored it and kept doing whatever else was “so important”. If I had an accountability partner, they would also have my calendar and could text or call to say, “hey, did you start chapter 12 yet?” or “don’t forget to leave work on time today so that you can go to yoga.”. I definitely need an accountability partner.
- Happy Planner – Happy Planners are the perfect 12-18 month calendar planners that have inspirational quotes, month at a glance, week at a glance, stickers, post-it notes, etc. They come in mini, classic, and large sizes. For all of you who love scrapbooking, this Happy Planner allows you to show off your creative side while keeping track of your days and goals. You can find the Happy Planner in stores like Michael’s, Jo-Ann Fabric, Walmart, and Bed Bath and Beyond. Here’s a link to learn more: http://www.meandmybigideas.com/create365-thehappyplanner/
- Bullet Journal – Today was my first time hearing about a Bullet Journal so I’m in the process of researching this more, but in short from what I can gather it’s a journal that you create and use as a to-do list, planner, and diary. It’s all in one. For more info, please check out this link: http://bulletjournal.com/about/ OR Google Bullet Journal.
Ok, so now that I have all this info and inspiration, my wheels are turning and I’m ready to put into practice what I learned today. I currently use an old school pen and paper calendar, but I’m a sucker for stationary and girly things so I’m planning to check out the Happy Planner AND ask one of my besties to be my accountability partner (I might even need two partners lol).
Let me know how you manage your self care and make sure that it happens regularly. I’d love some more ideas and suggestions. If you’re guilty like me and often forget about yourself, but want to do better with practicing self care, I want to hear from you too. Will you try one of these? If so which one(s)?
Soyfully yours ♥
