When was the last time that you took a trip with friends, family, your special someone, or even just on your own? If you had to pause and think about it then it’s probably been too long and it’s time for a getaway.  You work hard and take care of your family and responsibilities day after day, so part of intentional self-care is finding a balance between work and play.

I’ll be blogging throughout the month of July about different types of getaways … after all the Candle of the Month is GETAWAY.  So here’s a few tips for planning a quick little getaway:

1. Be flexible

Getaways aren’t relaxing and enjoyable if you’re stressed about the cost, so be flexible and choose a location that works for your budget.  Consider a “staycation” and explore your own city. Chances are there are gems right in your own backyard that you haven’t explored yet.

2. Do your research

Once you decide where you want to go, then start doing your research and find the best deals.  Don’t purchase the first deal you come across because chances are there’s there’s an even better one.  Everyone knows about travel sites like Expedia and Travelocity, but sometimes going directly to the hotel site or airline will save you money.

3. Getaways don’t have to be long

Don’t get me wrong a month long vacation in Jamaica would be ah-mazing! but if that’s not in your immediate budget and time allowance, then try planning a 4-day weekend.  Take off Friday and Monday (or call in sick lol).  Having a good solid two days of no travel and just relaxation and fun will be just what your mind, body, and spirit needs.

4. Have fun

Keep your trip planning simple.  Remember the purpose of the getaway is so that you can have fun and relax.  If you start to feel overwhelmed and stressed while planning your  trip, stop and take a break.  Don’t make it harder than it has to be.  Planning shouldn’t take you any longer than a few hours.

Ok so what are you waiting for, start planning and pack your bag!

Share in the comments about your trip planning and where you’re going.

Soyfully yours ♥
